Boss guide
WatchBlocks has two major 2D boss encounters. The Slime Boss is summoned wherever you choose. The Skeleton King controls a Volcanic Temple arena and changes behavior at half health.
Prepare before the fight
- Bring your strongest sword, repaired gear, armor, food, and blocks for controlling space.
- Store unrelated valuables in a chest. A gravestone protects carried items after death, but recovery is easier when the route is short.
- Clear ordinary enemies near the arena before starting a boss encounter.
- Keep a Glow tool, torches, or Glow Armor available when fighting underground or inside a dark structure.
Slime Boss
| Stat | Verified value | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Health | 120 | Plan for a sustained fight rather than a short ordinary-mob encounter. |
| Size | 3.6 blocks | It occupies far more space than a normal slime. |
| Contact damage | 3 | Repeated overlap can remove health quickly. |
| Daylight | Immune | Sunlight does not remove the boss for you. |
Craft a Slime Summoner from 50 Slimeballs and 5 Diamonds. Using it consumes the item and spawns the boss above the player. Choose an open area with a solid floor and room to retreat before using it.
The boss moves through large jumps and deals contact damage. Each successful hit against a living Slime Boss has a 15% chance to spawn a normal green slime. Remove those smaller slimes before they surround you, then return your attention to the boss.
Skeleton King
| Phase | Behavior | Response |
|---|---|---|
| Temple countdown | Entering an undefeated Volcanic Temple starts a 10-second countdown. | Use the countdown to heal, select your weapon, and move to open floor. |
| Normal, 60–31 health | The King chases, strikes for 3 damage, and performs a ground slam every 7 seconds. | Leave the ground or move beyond the three-block shockwave range before impact. |
| Enraged, 30–1 health | Movement speeds up, slams arrive every 4 seconds, and two 8-health minions can appear every 10 seconds. | Clear minions promptly and avoid being trapped against the locked gates. |
When the countdown ends, obsidian gates seal the arena. A normal slam deals 4 damage; an enraged slam deals 5. The shockwave reaches players within three horizontal blocks who are close to floor level and standing on the ground. TNT deals 15 damage to the Skeleton King rather than defeating it instantly.
Rewards
- Slime Boss
- Drops the Slime Charm and 5 Slimeballs. The charm keeps ordinary slimes away, but it does not pacify the boss itself.
- Skeleton King
- Drops an Iron Ingot and Iron Sword, unlocks the Skeleton King achievement, opens the temple gates, and creates the temple reward chest.
- Temple chest
- The victory chest is registered with a Lava Charm, which protects the player from lava-related danger.
Death, retreat, and retries
If you leave a Volcanic Temple during its countdown, the countdown is cancelled. Once the Skeleton King has spawned, the gates remain locked until victory or death. Dying removes the active King, opens the gates, and resets the encounter so the undefeated temple can be attempted again.
The Slime Boss is not tied to a temple reset. Summon it only when the surrounding terrain and your inventory are ready for the full encounter.
