Biomes

Biomes shape the surface palette, terrain blocks, vegetation, weather flavor, and the creatures you are likely to meet. Normal worlds mix the built-in biomes; Snow and Volcanic world types focus on their respective environments.

Built-in biomes

BiomeVerified identityNotable materials / life
PlainsOpen grassland starting terrain.Grass, dirt, flowers, crops, and common passive wildlife.

Water behaves differently in snow biomes: the water simulator freezes water there. Volcanic worlds and terrain include lava-related materials and a Lava Charm.

Custom biomes

Full Access includes mod creation. Custom biome definitions can be created, stored in modpacks, and activated when a world is created. The game reserves eight custom biome slots in its built-in registry; custom names come from their definitions.

World Traveler

The World Traveler achievement tracks the six built-in biomes. Custom biomes do not count toward that built-in requirement.
